Can you say TEN DP's!? I could end this preview there, but I won't. This is the fullest field of the year in the DP's, plus you have 11 GTS cars and 18 GT cars! And this is at Grand American's premier racetrack with two of the three points titles up for grabs (okay, so the Ferrari of Washington team is almost clinched, but Marcus still has a chance!).

The DP's.

With 10 cars at the finale, this should be a preview of what's to come in 2004. There should be lots of good action through the pack, with 3 "wild cards" in this race, the new cars from Essex, PAP-Parts, and the 2nd SpeedSource/Mears Motor Coach entry. Hopefully those cars are sorted out and stay in the fray.

The cars that have run all year should have the edge, and with the points title being as close as it is. Four points separate leader Bell Motorsports and the Brumos 58 and 59 cars, respectively, and the driver's title is the same margin between Terry Borcheller (leader), teammates David Donohue and Mike Borkowski, and teammates Hurley Haywood and J.C. France.

I can see one of two things happening, the points guys battling hard and coming in 1-2-3, or fighting amongst themselves and letting someone else sneak in the win. I'm not going to divulge my picks yet (I got a fantasy league to win!), but I do think that we might have a first time winner this weekend, and it will be foreign powered.

So far it's the Doran's that are fastest in practice, Bell and Doran/Lista, followed by the Brumos #58 and the SpeedSource #70.

GTS

What a field for the final race of the GTS class as we know it. You got the 2003 champs at Heritage, Derhaag (Daytona 24 and VIR pole winner), Sky Blue (ran very well at Mid Ohio), Team Re/Max (Bully Hill 250 winner), Team Amick, VIR winners ICY / SL Motorsports, the Gunnar Porsche (I keep waiting for that car to break out and run really well….it's bound to sometime!), plus more. This will be a dog fight that will probably give the DP's fits when driving near each other, although it may be another battle of attrition, as other races have been this year. Heck, there could be body panels flying in this class! Derhaag and Heritage are #'s 1 and 2 on the speed chart right now, as has been the case when they've run together this year.

GT

Welcome back Racers Group and Orbit! They join a stellar field including Scuderia Ferrari of Washington (with a second GT and a future SGS Cup car), Marcus, Schumacher, Flying Lizard/Rennworks (great looking car!), Stevenson Motorsports / PAP-Parts, etc. With FoW close to clinched, this is mainly just a regular race, just like GTS. Will the Racer's Group pick up where they left off at the Daytona 24? This is a rich GT field with only a few Cup cars running, and this could prove to be the closest GT race of the year, although it would be tough to beat the finish at Phoenix.

So far it's Flying Lizard/Rennworks, Ferrari of Washington, Schumacher, Orbit, and The Racers Group in practice.

Good luck in the fantasy league this week, and I hope you enjoy the race!
