CogZio's Tidbits:
Leh Keen and the Autometrics Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup SGS Team
By Derek Meluzio
Leh took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions for www.garra-fans.com.
Derek:
How has your season gone so far? Are you recording the type of finishes you planned on?
Leh:
Well, my first race was in July at the Paul Revere 250 at Daytona. Cory started and about 20 minutes he was running in 2nd and got whacked by Levitas going into turn 1. He dove in the inside and there just wasn’t enough time for him to slow down and whacked the whole left side or Cory’s car and blew his radiator out. Water from his car shot all over the windshield of our car so Cory thought his radiator exploded from the crash and pulled over not wanted to over heat the motor. Well it took 20 minutes to get he car back to the pits and the fenders beat out. Cory went back out then I drove the last hour. The race was done for us since we were 10 laps down from the wreck.
So that’s how my first Pro race went. VIR went very well. We were happy that would could do so well with such an old car (2000). Barber backed up the fact that VIR wasn’t a fluke. My stint at Barber went very well, I had a 1 minute and 24 second lead at one point and was racing with the 4th place in class GT car. We ended up 3rd again like at VIR which is about as good as we can do with the car. I wasn’t expecting to be on the podium in 2 of my first 3 Pro races, and especially didn’t think I would be kinda upset by a 3rd place at barber I wanted 1st but I will take 3rd of course. Its just we ran in 1st for almost 2 hours so I would have liked to finished there.
Derek:
TPC is the team to beat right now but you have been on the podium with them twice so far. What will it take to make the next step or two up the podium?
Leh:
TPC is defiantly the team beat. Rand Pobst is a great driver and it will be tough to win against him. Cory and I make an awesome team we are constantly pushing each other to go faster. We are also very good buddies and both have the strong will to win. The only thing holding us back from 1st place finishes is the car. We are looking forward to next year with the 2005 car and plan to do very well and hope to be contenders for the championship.
Derek:
Will you make the jump from SGS to GT next season? If so has the decision by Porsche to support the GT teams helped you make the plans?
Leh:
Yes we will. Since we plan to run the full season the Porsche support will help us.
Derek:
Lastly will you be at Fontana for the season finale?
Leh:
We will not be going to Cali, Since we aren’t in the points it doesn’t make much since to make the trip this year.
Thanks Leh and good luck in 2005! The next CogZio's Tidbits will be posted following my next trip to Ferrari/Maserati of Washington next week.
