Cog-zio's Tidbits: Andy Lally

By Derek Meluzio

Andy Lally took some time out of his schedule to answer a few questions about his 2004 plans in the Rolex Sportscar Series SGS class (his responses are in italics).

Give us a brief rundown on how your Rolex 24 went. Was the team happy with the results?

The team was thrilled. The crew did a great job and there were no mistakes during pit stops and we had no pit penalties at all. The car ran flawless all race long and we could not have asked for anything more than that. We had a near perfect race, and in a 24 hour event that is normally good enough to win.

What are your thoughts on the new SGS category so far, who do you see as your toughest competitor, and what are your expectations for the rest of 2004 after the Rolex 24?

I raced a full season of GT last year and these cars really are not that much different, the fact that they cost only a fraction of what a typical GT car costs and looks exactly the same and is within a few seconds a lap I think is wonderful. I think it is the right direction to go for sure. The competition will be closer and more team owners will be willing to commit to full seasons, as will drivers.

TPC will be fielding as many as three cars at some events. Who will you be paired with and will that pairing stay the same all year?

Marc Bunting and I will be team mates for the season, three cars will certainly keep our guys busy too. Mike Levitas and Randy Pobst will be in another car while John Littlechild and Bill Adam will be in yet another TPC car.

Next season GT and SGS will be combined into one class. Do you know if TPC has intentions on entering cars for 2005

I know TPC likes this formula, and that's why they are entering it with 3 cars. I can't speak for Mike right now but it would be my guess that he has every intention of going on with Grand Am in the SGS class

.

Thanks Andy and good luck during the remainder of 2004.

Thanks Derek, always a pleasure.
